The Kid Company ....... where kids have fun!
A day at TKC
At The Kid Company, we provide quality childcare from our settings in Chapel-en-el-Frith and Heald Green, where your child's time is perfectly structured to foster fun, learning and creativity.
The overall structure and rhythm of the day at TKC remains the same over the week, to provide the children with a sense of security, so they know what to expect.
DROP OFF
TKC nursery staff are experienced in settling children into nursery. Your child’s key worker will take this opportunity to ask about your child’s general health, well-being and particular needs that morning.
MORNING
Once all the children have arrived, the children enjoy Circle Time which includes the TKC Welcome (old and new TKC kids and visitors join in). Children are reminded through singing to be considerate and caring to others. Children are encouraged to join in, or to select an activity or area of play that they particularly enjoy. TKC staff have access to an array of resources to help encourage children find an activity or area of play that they enjoy. This period of supervised play, occurs across the nursery.
Children have fun during adult-led focused activities. During this time, the children are encouraged to engage in activities specifically tailored to their particular interests and learning/developmental stage, to help build their confidence and understanding.
During the morning, TKC Helpful Friends may be chosen to help our staff:
- select a range of toy/resources to play with
- prepare or perform a fun activity with staff
- prepare for and serve snack
- water, harvest vegetables or fruit from our kitchen garden
Breakfast is offered to the early birds. Drinks and healthy snacks are offered to children during the morning. Healthy packed lunches can also be provided from home.
LUNCH
Lunch is freshly prepared for the children and is served at 11.45-12.00am. Children from different age groups may eat together to encourage social interaction and the tasting of different types of foods. At dinner time, TKC Investigators (preschool children) are encouraged to serve themselves, and help serve and care for the younger children.
The TKC menu includes many recipes suggested by our parents; meals the children particularly like and food specialities from around the world. Please click to view our Sample Menu.
TKC provide quiet zones to encourage children to relax and sleep when they want to, our staff work closely with parents to establish a routine that suits their specific needs.
For children that have a sleep after lunch, they are encouraged to meet in the quiet zones for Story/Sensory Time or to listen to relaxing music. Older children are encouraged to play outdoors for noisy play, go to the library for quiet time or to undertake targeted play.
AFTERNOON
For children joining in the afternoon, TKC host a second Circle Time and the TKC Welcome. For children that attended nursery during the morning session, TKC staff have fun during We Make or child-led play.
DINNER TIME
Dinner is served at 4.00-4.15pm. Dinner is freshly prepared for the children and generally includes participation foods or the children’s favourites. Although this meal is lighter than lunch, this meal still consists of a main course and small dessert. Again, children from different age groups (including after school children) eat together, making mealtime a relaxing and enjoyable time for everyone. During this session, preschool children are encouraged to help serve themselves and care for the younger children.
AFTERNOON
The children will have had an active (physically and intellectually), fun-packed day so from 4.30pm onward we encourage the children to engage is quieter activities. TKC developmental programs provide opportunities for children to play freely, and where possible, without age or room restrictions e.g. general play, go to the library area for Story Time, play or dance to popular music, games, sensory time.
HOME TIME
When parents/carers arrive, the children are calm yet excited to tell you about their days activities. During this time, TKC staff will share information about the children’s day and pass on any important information relating to what the children are learning.
Please note:
the above is a basic routine which is regularly changed/ adapted to meet a child’s wishes and/or learning needs.
